Monroe Police Remind Drivers To Be Safe As New School Year Begins

MONROE, Conn. -- The new school year in Monroe begins on Thursday, Sept. 1 and police are asking the public to help make it a safe one.

The Monroe Police Department reminds all motorists to slow down and be alert for children at cross walks and bus stops. Keep a safe distance from school buses and be patient while the buses safely transport our students.

The fine for passing a stopped school with the bus's flashing red lights activated is $465 for a first offense and a Misdemeanor Summons for subsequent offenses. Be alert and help keep school children safe this year.
